KCCHA staff work as consultants for the Access Alliance, whose main thrust is to help member agencies expand the nation's supply of affordable housing and to revitalize neighborhoods without relying solely on federal programs and funding. Member agencies can turn to the organization for training and technical assistance, as well as private capital at competitive rates and terms to acquire, develop, or redevelop.
"Over 200,000 units of affordable housing nationwide are lost as older apartments are made over into high-priced housing or give way to commercial developments," says Chase. "Affordable housing benefits everyone in the community, creating a diversity that makes a neighborhood special."
"If we can help housing authorities nationwide save some of those buildings, we'll help these areas preserve and build stronger communities."
From Arizona to Nevada, Idaho to Oregon, KCCHA helps preserve affordable housing.
